"But I'm a Cheerleader" (1999) | Cult of Tuck presents
In collaboration with Bend's premiere drag troupe The Cult of Tuck, Thursdays in June at Tin Pan will celebrate PRIDE month with a series of beloved queer movies. Each film will be a personal pick from one of the members of The Cult of Tuck. June 22nd's film, But I'm a Cheerleader (1999) is the personal pick of Cult of Tuck member Mystique Hunt!Mystique Hunt says: "When I first came out as a teen, I spent a lot of time voraciously consuming any and all queer media I could get my hands on — I wanted very much to feel seen and understood by film and television. But I’m a Cheerleader struck a chord with me from my first viewing to my tenth. I was immediately enamored by the ridiculousness and the camp and the colorful sets and costumes — and I saw myself in Natasha Leone’s journey of discovery (I too, spent many years simply oblivious to the obvious signs of my queerness).”You can follow Mystique on Instagram @mystique.huntThis screening in this series will be an OUTDOOR screening in the Alley.Synopsis:Megan is an all-American girl. A cheerleader. She has a boyfriend. But Megan doesn't like kissing her boyfriend very much. And she's pretty touchy with her cheerleader friends.
